Our Diary for CLUB EVENTS

PLEASE NOTE : 2020 … Club Events resumed generally from start of January 2020 :

Caterham U3A events weekly on a Monday morning

Monthly weekend ramble from 18th January (with one event per month for the first quarter ~ until I am certain that my knee stability is properly restored).

For health & safety purposes relating to the welfare of our Club membership, and U3A walkers … we now have to require a 14 day ‘quarantine’ period of exclusion from Walking Group activities for any member(s) of the Group upon returning currently from any foreign holidays.   This most especially applies for members who have been to the Far East including (but not restricted to) … China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau.

In addition, we may be reviewing over the coming days/weeks, and hopefully as a short term measure only, the Club’s custom of finishing walks with a social time or a lunch etc at a hostelry.

This is based on advice from U3A main office UK and the following ADVICE RECEIVED FROM the DEPARTMENT for HEALTH & NHS ENGLAND

The Government and NHS have issued advice for members of the public following the confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.

Typical symptoms of coronavirus include fever and a cough that may progress to a severe pneumonia causing shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

The UK Chief Medical Officers are advising anyone who has travelled to the UK from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau in the last 14 days and is experiencing cough or fever or shortness of breath, to stay indoors and call NHS 111, even if symptoms are mild.

More information about the virus, as well as symptoms and advice, is available to view at :

Finding Events

In the briefing scripts for our events we offer LOCATIONstats for our meeting/parking points, and at times for other places. Included under this section will be the NEAREST postcode (not very precise in most cases); the Ordnance Survey grid reference (usually in TQ or TV 6-figure format AND 10-figure format ~ the latter being more precise); AND the latest what3words 3-metre international grid format. The latter is very precise, can be used from mobile phones, from home computers to check and print in advance and in most cases can now transfer into satnav systems…or in some cases ( i.e. late-model vehicles ) is already included in some way on the inbuilt satnav sytems. To find out more about the origins of this innovative system ~ which is already being used by emergency services, some couriers and more : what3word ~ how it all began (link for youtube.com)
